Have Fun With a Chia Herb Garden

If your children love to make crafts, your home is probably overflowing with things that are cute, but not necessarily useful. The next time your kids ask to do a project, why not help them make something that is small enough to tuck on the kitchen windowsill and allows you to make great tasting meals, the Chia herb garden? A Chia herb garden is a grow it yourself herb garden that is the perfect choice for a family project.

Are you wondering why a Chia herb garden kit is so special? When you decide to make a windowsill herb garden with your kids, you will need to remember to buy all of the supplies you need. Of course, most of the supplies won’t be in small quantities, so you will end up with more seeds, potting soil, and other supplies than you actually need. Even worse, you may forget to shop for an important supply for your project and you and the kids will have to stop right in the middle of planting your herbs to run to the store.

When you shop for a Chia herb garden, you are buying a kit that includes everything you need. The kit contains growing sponges, pots and saucers, liners, packets of herb seed, plant markers, instructions, and even recipes for using your herbs. Unlike most herb garden kits, this kit uses special growing sponges in place of potting soil. The sponges allow the roots to grow freely without any of the mess that can happen when you combine children and dirt.

To use your Chia herb garden kit, you will need to moisten the sponges and then place each sponge in a pot. Then, open a packet of seeds and sprinkle them over the sponge. Place the proper plant marker in the pot, so you don’t forget which pot holds which herb. Repeat these steps until all of the herbs are planted. Then, set the pots on the windowsill. Keep them watered regularly and soon you and your children will see fresh, new seedlings. It won’t be long before you are enjoying fresh herbs in your meals.

Of course, planting a Chia herb garden doesn’t involve much in the way of arts and crafts, so you may want to add another element to the project by having your children use acrylic paints to decorate each pot before you plant the herb seeds.
